What Is ADHD?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects a person’s ability to focus, regulate impulses, and manage daily tasks. It is often characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, though these symptoms vary in type and intensity from person to person. ADHD can impact academic performance, work productivity, relationships, and self-esteem.
ADHD is commonly diagnosed in childhood but can persist into adolescence and adulthood. It is not simply about being easily distracted or overly energetic—it is a condition rooted in brain function and executive functioning difficulties, which influence skills like organization, time management, emotional regulation, and task completion.
With the right support, including therapy, behavioral strategies, and sometimes medication, individuals with ADHD can learn to navigate challenges effectively, harness their strengths, and lead fulfilling lives.
Therapy for ADHD: Our Approaches
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy for ADHD
CBT is one of the most widely used therapies for ADHD. It helps individuals recognize and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors related to focus, procrastination, emotional regulation, and self-esteem. It also provides practical tools for organization, time management, and impulse control.
Trauma-Informed Therapy for ADHD
Trauma-informed therapy for ADHD acknowledges the deep connection between past experiences and ADHD symptoms, particularly in areas like emotional regulation, self-esteem, and stress management. Many individuals with ADHD have faced chronic criticism, rejection, or feelings of failure, which can lead to shame, self-doubt, and heightened emotional sensitivity. This approach helps individuals recognize and heal the impact of past trauma while also developing practical strategies to manage impulsivity, rejection sensitivity, and overwhelm. By fostering self-compassion, emotional resilience, and a sense of safety, trauma-informed therapy empowers individuals with ADHD to navigate life with greater confidence and balance.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy for ADHD
Mindfulness techniques helps individuals with ADHD to improve attention, emotional regulation, and impulse control. By practicing mindfulness, clients develop greater awareness of their thoughts and behaviors, allowing them to pause before reacting impulsively.
